Reading Rainbow Campaign Opens Big…But Don’t Take My Word for It

Having earned nearly half the funding of the $1,000,000 requested in just a few hours Lavar Burton’s plea to bring back Reading Rainbow has been heard around the world. With a whole generation of adults who grew up with the famous literary television program the funding began quickly and the word of the Kickstarter campaign hit the internet faster than finishing the latest page turner.  Lavar Burton seeks to bring an internet version of the Reading Rainbow show not only onto our home computers, but into classrooms at no cost. Currently 1 in 4 children in the United States cannot read or reads at a level far below their grade expectations. With literacy programs across the nation shutting down due to lack of finances, such as recently in Los Angeles, the Reading Rainbow pledge could not come at a better time. The Kickstarter ends July 2, 2014.
