Pokémon creative design director, Eric Medalle, was killed Sunday March 13, 2016 when a tree fell on his car during a violent wind storm. He was 42. His almost 2-year-old daughter was in the car with him but, fortunately, did not suffer any major injuries.
Medalle started working for Pokémon in 2003 as a Senior Graphic Designer before advancing to a Design Manager in 2008 and ultimately a Creative Design Director in 2010. During his tenure at Pokémon, he worked on Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, X, Y, Black 2, White 2, Conquest, Black, White, Ranger: Guardian Signs, HeartGold and SoulSilver, Ranger: Shadows of Almia, specifically working on the logos on the TCG. Medalle is also credited as a logo designer for Pokémon the TV Series and two movies, Pokémon: Diancie and the Cocoon of Destruction and Pokémon: Zoroark: Master of Illusions.
While many Pokémon fans might not have known his name, it’s safe to say that, if you’re a fan of Pokémon, you’ve likely seen some of his handiwork.
Our hearts go out to Medalle’s family and friends. He will be missed. There is a fund that has been set up to help his two young daughters on YouCaring.
