RIP: Al Jarreau – Moonlighting, Grease, American Idol

Al Jarreau has passed today at age 76. He was an incredible jazz singer with seven Grammy Awards. The singer was born on March 12, 1940 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He started a music career and sang on the 1976 Valentine’s Day episode of Saturday Night Live. Jarreau released his very successful Breakin’ Away in 1981 which included “We’re in This Love Together.” He is known for this theme song which was featured on the Moonlighting show which featured Bruce Willis and Cybill Shepherd and ran from 1985 to 1989. Jarreau was one of the singers on USA for Africa’s song, “We Are the World.” The singer toured and performed on the Broadway production of Grease. He received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2001. Jarreau song with finalist Paris Bennett on the finale of Season 5 of American Idol in 2006. Also in 2006, he also sang with Cheech Marin in Celebrity Duets. He finished touring in February 8th of this year, but his smooth singing which always makes me feel comfortable and happy will always be remembered.
