On his own again, the Doctor is up to getting himself into a little bit or a lot of trouble. Never able to be alone, even when traveling solo, the Doctor picks up a couple to give them a quick trip around the block, that turns out to be anything but quick.

The Doctor, having left post-revolution France, picks up a pair of unlikely companions from a very unlikely place-Big Time Comic Convention, Birmingham, U.K. Val and Sonny are a comic book writing team that have had better days as they face a panel full of rabid fans. Sonny provides the story and dialog and Val draws the artwork to go with it. Even though they live in the same flat, they tend to communicate by texting and that communication is breaking down between them. They write the extremely popular Time Surgeon comic book series, that may be a little more than a bit based on a certain Doctor, who is tired of their lack luster last few issues. To fix this, he’s decided to take them on a spin of time and space to see how it really should look like!

This issue runs with poking a good deal of fun at itself in a very cute way. Robbie Morrison gives a great take on the whole creative process on how it really works to put a comic book story together, and Rachael Stott give us a nice look into their world and the banter that goes into that line of work. Not nearly as glamorous as their panels come across in the stories, we’re get a real look into the real people who do this, from a certain point of view. It’s a fun take on the whole process without breaking the fourth wall.

This issue is on sale now from Titan Comics.
