Wild, Weird, Wonderful Geek News Wrap Up 2/12-2/18

It goes without saying, I hope, that there are potential possible spoilers in the news, particularly where casting rumors are concerned.

TV:

There are some rumors swirling around Doctor Who with the announcement of Capaldi’s leaving. My favorite casting rumor is currently Tilda Swinton.  Personally, I’m not much for casting a woman just to cast a woman in the role but, if they’re going to cast a woman in the role, she would be the perfect candidate. A little strange, a chameleon sort of ability, and talent and Swinton has all that in spades.

Kevin Smith, of Clerks and Mallrats fame, is slated to write, direct, and executive produce a tv series for BBC America based on the Sam and Twitch line of comics.

Benedict Cumberbatch of Sherlock and Doctor Strange will be starring in and executive producing “The Child In Time” for the BBC.

Movies:
I’m not sure how Disney is able to do it, since the writer was never really pleased with the original Mary Poppins movie but, there appears to be a sequel coming – Mary Poppins Returns is scheduled for release on Christmas 2018 and has cast the incredible Angela Lansbury to portray the Balloon Lady.

Keanu Reeves teases possible Bill and Ted sequel!

Comics:

Funko and IDW are teaming up for a limited comic book line, Pop! Comics.

Science:

Earth has a new continent. Apparently, it’s called Zealandia.

Scientists are about to turn on a brand new telescope that may be able to photograph a black hole’s event horizon.
Deaths:

George “The Animal” Steele (79) former wrestler with the WWF.
Bruce Lansbury (87), former Wonder Woman, The Wild, Wild West, and Murder She Wrote writer and brother of Angela Lansbury.

Warren Frost (91) of Twin Peaks and Seinfeld.

And lastly: I don’t know what it is but I wish it wasn’t on Hulu because I need this in my life – so so much.
