RIP: Verne Troyer – “Mini-Me” Austin Powers, Harry Potter

Verne Troyer, 49, passed away April 21, 2018. No cause of death was given at this time. His death was announced on his Facebook page:

Troyer is best remembered as Mini-Me in Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me, and as Griphook the goblin in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.

Known for his distinctive look caused by his achondroplasia dwarfism, he got his start in the film industry as a stunt double for Baby Bink in the film Baby’s Day Out. This lead to other roles in films such as Men in Black and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. His big break came as Mini-Me in Mike Myers’ Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me and returning as the character in Austin Powers: Goldmember. He also appeared in Myers’ film The Love Guru. He had small roles in films like Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone as  Griphook the goblin, who was voiced by Warwick Davis, but Troyer was credited and in The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus.

Troyer has struggled with substance abuse in the last few years, entering rehab several times.

Our hearts go out to his family and friends. He was one of the world’s smallest people, but he left a big impact.
